Gastgeber

Gastgebers belong in the Combat Abnormal tier. They are the evolutions of Scampers. They are normally relatively slow but move quickly when hostile. They are technically considered as Evolved.

Spawning

• When a Scamper's ten-minute mound age timer finishes, if it has 7 kills it will become a Gastgeber.

• Has a 30% chance of spawning from a linked Scamper when its ten-minute mound age timer finishes, regardless of how many kills it has.

• Spawned from Arena Tendrils as a special mob during a raid.

Unique Behavior

• After some time of being in the world, the Gastgeber will root itself in the ground and start infecting blocks within a 25-block radius, placing down spore foliage blocks. It will transform normal blocks into their infested form if they have one. It performs these bursts of infections every 30 seconds, creating a small puff of spores. Each time it does a burst of infection, mobs within 19 blocks horizontally and 16.55 blocks vertically will receive Mycelium Infection II for 30 seconds and Weakness I for 20 seconds. After 600 seconds have passed, the Gastgeber will unroot and move to a new area to infect. The following are all the foliage blocks Gastgebers ages can place:

  • Big Mycelium Growths (normally and 50% chance for generic foliage blocks)

  • Big Wall Growths (only on walls)

  • Bile Lump

  • Biomass Bulb

  • Cancerous Claw (only on ceilings)

  • Cancerous Lungs (only on ceilings)

  • Corrosive Tumor (only on ceilings)

  • Decayed Branch (30% chance for leaf blocks touching a Decayed Log block)

  • Decayed Bush (50% chance for generic foliage blocks)

  • Decayed Fern (100% chance for ferns)

  • Decayed Grass (100% chance for short grass)

  • Drowned Lump (only underwater)

  • Explosive Lump

  • Fang Lump

  • Fleshy Growths (only on walls)

  • Fungal Roots (only on ceilings)

  • Fungal Stem Sapling

  • Glowshroom (only on ceilings)

  • Mycelium Growths

  • Mycelium Veins

  • Pollutant Lump (only underwater)

  • Popped Bloomed Mycelium (floors and ceilings)

  • Rotten Crops (10% chance for generic crop blocks)

  • Vocal Growth (only on walls)

  • Wall Growths (only on walls)

• Gastgebers are neutral and will only attack when hit.

• Gastgebers have very high knockback, having 10x the knockback of a basic infected, with a value of 3 for knockback.

• Is completely ignored by the despawning system.

Behavior

• Gastgebers inflict Mycelium Infection III for 6 seconds when dealing melee damage.

• Capable of breaking Glass and Leaves.

• Cannot ride Boats.

• Can perform short dashes in liquids to pursue a target.

• Gastgebers have a 5% chance to drop a Scent upon death unless they are freezing.

• Gastgebers can create a Search Alert upon death.

• Able to utilize Kill Points to grant themselves buffs.

• Present a weakness to the cold.

• Gastgebers are influenced by Horde Mentality; they attempt to pair up with Infected, Evolved, Hyper Evolved, Experiments, Bairns, Scampers, other Gastgebers, and Calamities. Additionally, Infected and Bairns will attempt to pair up with Scampers.

• Gastgebers can be Linked.

• Are not affected by Vanilla Despawning.

• In regards to Frostbite, have a Body Heat of 2 and Enum Percentage of 7.5%.

Lore

• Due to the Gastgeber not having any eyes, it cannot see. Thus, the Mounds on its body control its movement, hence their erratic movement when aggroed.
