Axtwerfers are the evolution of Infected Vindicators, belonging in the Hyper Evolved tier. They are known for being extremely fast and extremely strong.
Spawning
Spawned when an Infected Vindicator gets 7 evolution points by killing mobs and its evolution timer begins. Once the time is up, they will become an Axtwerfer.
Spawned from Arena Tendrils as a special mob during a raid.
Sometimes spawned by a Proto Hivemind when it receives damage, in which it summons a special Verwahrung that can hold an Axtwerfer inside.
Unique Behavior
Every 3 seconds, if it has a line of sight to its target, it will throw its iron axe at them as a projectile that deals 9 damage. This axe disables shields and will be given back to the Axtwerfer after 30 seconds.
The Axtwerfer has a 75% chance to block ranged attacks and a 30% chance for melee attacks. It will put its arms up for about half a second, receiving no damage and deflecting the projectile if there is one. It will only block entity damage, meaning it has to come from a mob or player.
When killing a Zombie, Husk, Drowned, or player, it will receive a skull on its right shoulder. When killing a Villager, Wandering Trader, Witch, Pillager, Vindicator, or Evoker, it will receive another skull on its left shoulder. Both of these skulls provide a 10% damage reduction respectively and are permanent.
Its melee attack will disable shields for a short time.
Behavior
Axtwerfers are melee combatants, attacking mobs with Infected forms, golems, and most hostile mobs.
Axtwerfers inflict Mycelium Infection for 30 seconds when dealing melee damage.
Essentially has Sweeping Edge, as its attack has an AOE.

Axtwerfers can see entities through walls if they are closer than 10 blocks.
Axtwerfers will create nests (explained on the Hyper Evolved page.)
Axtwerfers have a 5% chance to drop a Scent upon death.
Axtwerfers have 1.0 knockback resistance, meaning they can't be knocked back by attacks.
Axtwerfers do not attempt to group together, nor do they follow mobs. They are lone hunters.
Can perform low leaps/dashes to chase prey quickly through water.
Able to use kill points to give themselves buffs, such as strength or speed if the target is running away. They can also give themselves regeneration if they are low on health.
Capable of breaking blocks with a hardness of 3 or below.
Have a damage cap of 1/3 of their health on hard mode.
Present a weakness to the cold, like all spore mobs.

Trivia
Some of the Axtwerfer's abilities and design were partially taken from suggestions made by @dawnsslayers and @varenikloverv2 in the Spore Asylum Discord server, though the original suggestions were changed a lot and neither is credited as the original Axtwerfer suggestion.
'Axtwerfer' is German and means "axe thrower".
The Axtwerfer's model is based on vikings.
