Scents belong in the Unknown tier. They are considered a utility entity.
Spawning (Scents)
Have a 5% chance to drop from most spore mobs upon death.
Spawn from a Griefer's explosion.
Spawn when a Scamper's 10-minute age timer finishes.
Have a 10% chance to spawn when a Specter is damaged.
Spawned from a Vigil whenever they retreat.
Spawned from Calamity spore bursts with a 0.3% chance every tick if their target is within ~14.14 blocks.
Spawned from Calamities in combat with a 0.25% chance every tick. This doesn't care about target distance and checks for 2 Scents. If there's 2 Scents, it won't spawn it.
Spawned by Outpost Watchers when it detects a threat.
Spawned with a 5% chance when a player with a piece of armor cursed with Unwavering Nature is damaged.
Spawning (Overcharged Scents)
Have a 5% chance to drop from most spore mobs upon death if they are linked.
Spawned by a Proto Hivemind if she has a target within 20 blocks and there are no Scents nearby. Protos check for Scents every 2 seconds.
Spawned from an Infested Spawner if it is broken.
Spawned by Outpost Watchers if it detects there is another entity within 3 blocks of a target.
Unique Behavior (Scents & Overcharged Scents)
During set intervals during its lifetime, Scents will spawn an Infected only if there are targets nearby or the Scent is Overcharged. It can spawn either an Infected Human, Infected Husk, Infected Villager, or Infected Pillager, all at a 25% chance per interval.
The Scent will spawn entities within a 23x2x23 block rectangle, nearly centered on the Scent entity, which itself is 0.2x0.2 blocks.
Scents last for 300 seconds unless changed in the config.
There is a local Scent cap. Scents will check in an 8x8x8 area around themselves. If there are 5 Scents, no more can spawn in that area. Other mobs when spawning Scents will have different values for the distance of checking for Scents.
Vigils will check in a 32x32x32 radius when spawning Scents.
Calamities will check in a 20x20x20 radius when spawning Scents.
This is different from the despawning system, which allows a total of 30 Scents globally.
Scents are incapable of movement.
Unique Behavior (Overcharged Scents)
The mobs spawned from Overcharged Scents will be buffed in many ways.
They will spawn with Regeneration, Speed, Health Boost, Strength, and Resistance.
Will be given 4 - 6 kill and evolution points.
Take half of the normal time to evolve (this being 2.5 minutes.)
Are instantly linked.
