Howlers are a possible evolution of Infected Pillagers, belonging in the Evolved tier. They are very slow mobs. They are defined as a support mob by the config.
Spawning
Spawned when an Infected Pillager gets an evolution point by killing a mob and its evolution timer begins. If the evolution succeeds, they have a 30% chance to become a Howler.
Spawned from Arena Tendrils during the second and third waves of a raid.
Unique Behavior
Capable of performing a summoning ability when its target is within ~10.9 blocks, in which it will scream and can summon Infected Humans, Infected Villagers, Infected Pillagers, and Knights in groups of 1 - 3. It only does this ability when it's by itself. It has a 6 second cooldown on this ability.
If it detects other mobs in an 8x8x8 radius (ignoring support units and mobs that can pick up other mobs,) instead of summoning mobs, it will debuff targets within a 24x24x24 radius with Nausea for 5 seconds and Weakness for 10 seconds. Along with this, it'll give spore mobs Marker for 20 seconds. It will also buff nearby spore mobs in a radius of 12x12x12 with two random effects that include Regeneration, Speed, Health Boost, Strength, and Resistance. Depending on the difficulty will depend on the length and amplifier.
Easy = 5 seconds, amplifier 1
Normal = 10 seconds, amplifier 1
Hard = 20 seconds, amplifier 2
It has about a 12 second cooldown for both abilities, which are exclusive to the base variant.
The Howler has very high knockback, having 10x the knockback of a basic infected, with a value of 3 for knockback.
Can be picked up by Leapers.
20% of Howlers are variated. The Howler has one variant.
The Banshee Howler will scream every 10 seconds when having a target. When screaming, it will check within a 32x8x32 block area for other spore mobs. If there are more than 6 entities in that area, nothing will be summoned. If less than, the Banshee will summon a horde of 3 - 9 Infected Humans, Infected Villagers, Infected Pillagers, and Knights somewhere within a 16 block area. Additionally, when screaming, all spore mobs in the range will have their target set to the Banshee Howler's. This variant also moves slightly faster and has a minimum damage value of 3 HP (x1.5 hearts).
Behavior
Howlers are melee combatants and support units, attacking mobs with Infected forms, golems, and most hostile mobs.
Howlers inflict Mycelium Infection for 30 seconds when dealing melee damage.
Has a follow range of 24 blocks.
Howlers have a 5% chance to drop a Scent upon death.
When killed, have a chance to place a small short-lived Mycelium Infection area effect cloud.
Howlers will attempt to group together in hordes with other Evolved.
Infected will follow Howlers, who themselves will follow Hyper Evolved and Calamities.
Can perform low leaps/dashes to chase prey quickly through water.
Able to use kill points to give themselves buffs, such as strength or speed if the target is running away. They can also give themselves regeneration if they are low on health.
Capable of breaking glass and leaves.
Have a damage cap of 1/3 of their health on hard mode.
Present a weakness to the cold, like all spore mobs.

Trivia
Its model was changed because it was too 'goofy' in appearance.
The Banshee Howler variant exists to act as a weak Hyper form for the Howler, as it is viewed as too weak to get 7 kills on its own.
