Wiki is currently undergoing a revamp! If you see some pages that are more polished, it means they've been revamped.
Mounds belong in the Organoid tier. They are the main infectors of the mod.
Spawning
Spawned when a Scamper's ten-minute age timer finishes.
When a Tendril from another Mound touches Human Remains (this Mound can only grow up to the age below the parent Mound.)
When a Tendril from another Mound touches a chest with food inside (this Mound cannot age.)
Spawned by a Proto Hivemind when it detects a threat (this Mound cannot age.)
Every time a Calamity reaches their destination.
A 10% chance from a Corpse Piece after 5 minutes if it hasn't been collected.
Unique Behavior
Every 30 seconds, Mounds will release a puff of spores and infect the nearby area, the size of its infection depending on its age. It will transform normal blocks into their infested form if they have one. The following are all the foliage blocks all Mound ages can place:
Big Mycelium Growths (normally and 50% chance for generic foliage blocks)
Big Wall Growths (only on walls)
Decayed Branch (30% chance for leaf blocks touching a Decayed Log block)
Decayed Bush (50% chance for generic foliage blocks)
Fungal Roots (only on ceilings)
Popped Bloomed Mycelium (floors and ceilings)
Underwater Fungal Stem Top (only underwater)
Unpopped Bloomed Mycelium (floors and ceilings)
Wall Growths (only on walls)
Every 900 seconds (15 minutes) a Mound will age. Mounds are capable of reaching up to age 4. Each age has an increased infection range of 5 blocks. Health is increased by 20 and armor is increased by 2. The following are all the different ages for Mounds and their differences:
Age 1
Infection Range: 5 blocks
HP: 20 (x10 hearts)
Armor: 2 (x1 bars)
Age 2
Infection Range: 10 blocks
HP: 40 (x20 hearts)
Armor: 4 (x2 bars)
Age 3
Infection Range: 15 blocks
HP: 60 (x30 hearts)
Armor: 6 (x3 bars)
Able to spawn Tendrils (trait remains for further ages)
Able to place Biomass Lumps (trait remains for further ages)
Age 4
Infection Range: 20 blocks
HP: 80 (x40 hearts)
Armor: 8 (x4 bars)
Able to place Reconstructed Minds
Tendrils are spawned by age 3 and 4 Mounds with a 10% chance every time they puff ticks if it finds a feedable Structure Block, Human Remains, Monster Spawner, or containers with food inside (excluding BCUs), and pathfind towards the nearest one found. As Tendrils move, they will infest blocks and place Mycelium Veins. Tendrils can only be spawned if there are less than 5 active Tendrils in the area. Every 2 seconds, it will check if it is within 6 blocks of its target horizontally. If so, it will teleport to a random position around 8 blocks of the target's position. Tendrils can also climb, and if it detects its touching both a wall and a ceiling, it will teleport to prevent getting stuck. Tendrils will last for 4 minutes.
When reaching a Structure Block, it will feed it two kill points. Then the Tendril despawns.
When reaching Human Remains, it will convert it into a Mound. Then the Tendril despawns. This Mound can only grow to the age below the Mound that spawned the Tendril.
When reaching a Monster Spawner, it will convert it into an Infested Spawner. Then the Tendril despawns.
When reaching a container with food inside, the Tendril will eat all the food and spawn a Mound on top of the container. If the block above the container is not an air block, it will automatically convert it into an air block. Then the Tendril despawns. This Mound cannot age past age 1.
Structure Blocks consist of Biomass Lumps and Reconstructed Minds. They are occasionally placed by Mounds of a high enough age. These blocks will occasionally check for spore mobs within a certain area and tell them to head over to the block. Upon touching the block, the block will take one kill point until it has enough to spawn its respective structure or mob.
When a Mound is linked by a Proto Hivemind, it behaves differently than most mobs. It gets a unique texture, which appears grayer than the base Mound. Linked Mounds under the age of 3 will despawn when far away enough from the player and will always send a signal to the Proto Hivemind on death (only if the Mound is age 4+).
Mounds take 30 less damage from fall damage.
Place a Mycelium Infection II for 10 seconds area effect cloud when hit. Can only place another when the previous one has expired.
Behavior
Mounds are incapable of movement.
Able to breath underwater.
Mounds have a type of passive regeneration. This is disabled while they are under the effects of the cold.

Trivia
To handle more loot dropping from higher age Mounds, the Mound will die for however high the age is. For example, an age 4 Mound will die 4 times to give 4 deaths worth of loot.
Linked Mounds have a secret message on the bottom of their texture, but it is usually not visible due to the overlay of tendrils.
